Em's Gems

I am passionate about preparing and eating good food that is made at, or at least close, to home. Where possible, I use free range, local, and organic ingredients.

I have been active in the kitchen for as long as I can remember and had the opportunity to learn recipes and techniques from many special people including my grandma, nana and mother. My products are inspire by traditional family recipes and my love of taking time out for tea in the afternoon.

La Gioia (joy-ya) Events

Dream Pastries

Maria’s been in the kitchen ever since she can remember.  A fond memory is that of her mother placing her up on a chair and handing her a wooden spoon to help create her famous Ciambellone (translated from Italian - Giant Donut).  It is a delicious Italian style Marble Bunt Cake which will be available at the Market.  Of course at the time, licking the spoon was her favorite part, but now it’s seeing the joyous smiles after someone has bitten into one of her yummy treats.

Maria created La Gioia Events in 2007 and has been creating beautiful events ever since.  As a one-stop-shop for all event needs, she also creates sweet treats.  Keeping to her roots, she, with dear friend Marzia, bring a piece of Italia to Canada.  Pizzelle, Cantucci, and Bisciola just to name a few dolce (sweet) treats along with savoury dishes like pizza bianca, foccaccia and torta salata.

La Gioia Events also creates yummy Gift Baskets and Cookies in a Jar, for all special occasions.  Some of our clients consist of local Realtors, Dental Offices and Lawyers who use this service for their clients as a yummy Thank You treat.

Maria and Marzia are very excited to be a part of the market and are looking forward to seeing you there.

I WAS BORN IN URUGUAY, SOUTH AMERICA, I GOT MY FIRST RECIPIE BOOK FROM MY GRANDMA WHEN I WAS A CHILD; SINCE THEN MY PASSION FOR BAKING HASN’T STOPPED UNTIL THESE DAYS, ALLWAYS MAKING CAKES AND TREATS FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
I ENJOY MAKING PASTRIES THAT ARE TIPICAL WHERE I COME FROM, LIKE ALFAJORES (ALFAHORES), A TREAT YOU CAN‘T IGNORE IF YOU TRAVEL SOUTH, BUT  I ALSO  GET INSPIRED BY LOCAL AND EUROPEAN BAKING, I HAD GRANDPARENTS FROM SPAIN AND FRANCE, THEIR BAKING TIPS ARE STILL USED IN MY KITCHEN TODAY.
I’M  VERY EXCITED TO PARTICIPATE IN  THE MARKET AND MY WISH IS THAT MY PASTRIES AND CAKES ARE ENJOYED BY EVERYBODY.
SEE YOU AT THE MARKET !
